Job Summary

The Communications, Marketing and Creative Services (CMC) team is responsible for stewarding and enhancing the reputation and awareness of Dalhousie University through brand leadership, communications, marketing, public relations, community and stakeholder relations, creative services, media relations, issues management and crisis communications. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, CMC, the Associate Director, Brand & Recruitment Marketing is responsible for leading the high performing Brand & Recruitment Marketing team, and is ultimately responsible for developing, planning, managing and executing innovative, comprehensive and effective marketing strategies to enable the university to achieve its awareness, consideration and enrollment objectives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop creative and innovative marketing strategies that contribute to the university’s business goals, with particular focus on advancing enrollment and strengthening image, domestically and internationally. Lead and oversee the development of a broad range of marketing campaigns, publications and communications to promote a positive image and reputation for Dalhousie and its constituent parts.

  • Provide counsel and leadership to campus communicators and other constituencies on creating and implementing department or faculty specific marketing initiatives to ensure such efforts advance both unit-specific and overall institutional goals.

  • Lead, develop and refine Dalhousie’s primary brand strategy to ensure the university’s positioning and value proposition streams are meaningful, authentic and differentiated so that the university is presented as a leading destination of choice within the higher education sector.

  • Develop and execute a brand education and brand champion program to continually evolve and steward Dalhousie’s brand.

  • Assume a leadership role in conducting market research, campaign analysis and act as CMC’s senior leader for Rankings participation with team members from both communications and marketing.

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Brand & Recruitment Marketing team, a high-performing team that is accountable, strategic and strongly customer-focused.

Note: The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.   • Undergraduate degree in public relations, marketing, or other related areas, plus considerable experience in a marketing, and/or communications context, preferably in a large institutional environment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).

  • Exceptional marketing, communications and strategic planning skills are essential.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large and small projects and budgets autonomously, and the ability to provide clear direction to a broad range of staff and service providers.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage in the evaluation and long-term analysis of a problem or situation where the solutions are not immediately obvious is vital to this role.

  • Must have experience leading a team of high performing individuals.

Assets

  • Experience within post-secondary sector.

  • Master’s degree

  • Media buying experience at a national level.
